One letter, three works – a lasting impact.

This special exhibition presents a unique and valuable new acquisition of the Kleist-Museum for the first time: a letter by Heinrich von Kleist from 1810 that was thought to be lost, in which the stories ‘The Earthquake in Chili’ and ‘The Marquise of O....’ as well as the drama ‘Kathy of Heilbronn’ play an important role.

Between ink and fact:
Kleist's "Berliner Abendblätter" newspaper

Heinrich von Kleist was one of the first to publish a local daily newspaper from October 1810. The "Berliner Abendblätter" consisted of local news, reviews and discussion pieces as well as police reports. Kleist used them to shift the boundaries between fact and fiction.
